Pat Gonser is the co-founder and Executive Director of Pets and People: Companions in Therapy & Service. Professionally, Pat holds a Ph.D. and is an Associate Professor of Nursing at The University of Southern Mississippi. Her research in Animal-assisted Therapy includes studies centering on loneliness in the geriatric population as well as among prison inmates.Support of the human-animal bond can only be strengthened by promoting the ethical and effective utilization of appropriate animals in therapeutic settings. Besides working with felines in therapy, Pat also uses dogs (notably her Golden Retriever, Kayla), rabbits, birds, and a KuneKune pig named "Hamilton J. Squealer".
