Puppy Training Guidelines:

You can start puppy obedience commands at the age of 8 weeks. Their mind is very open to positive instruction that is fun and successful. Get as many family members involved as possible and apply the obedience commands throughout the pup's daily interaction. That way, the pup learns that obedience is just another part of his life.

Even small children can to be shown how to follow through a command with the proper placement of the pup. You will need a leather or nylon flat buckle collar, a 6 foot leather leash and a 20 to 40 foot light nylon rope with a snap clip at one end. (this long line is for energy burn offs).

Your patience and your puppy's respect for you are the keys in a happy, obedient puppy. Remain calm while teaching the puppy, keeping the sessions short and fun with lots of verbal praise. Most puppies long to hear "Good Puppy" from their master and respond well to training if they know they are pleasing you. You will learn to "READ" your puppy through his body language, eye contact, vocal sounds and physical contact. As you become accustomed with this "READING" tool, training will become easier and problems solved easier. Don't just look at your puppy, OBSERVE him.
