Puppy Pre-School; "DOWN":
From the sitting position you can easily teach your puppy the "DOWN" command. For young puppies, place your left hand on the shoulder blades, place your right arm behind both front legs. Apply a bit of pressure to the shoulders and gently, sweep both front legs straight out from under the pup, (do not grab either front leg as this will scare the pup and cause him to resist). Steady him by resting a hand on the front and the hind end of the pup. If your pup is struggling with you, then he may have a dominant temperament. This is not bad, just the way he is. Issue a growly "NO" and the pup should relax and set-tle. If there is no resistance, you are blessed with a bal-anced puppy. This is an exercise that helps you determine just what you have in your puppy's temperament. Release with "OK" and praise, praise, praise.
