Below is the procedure that I suggest you follow when making cuttings of a Sarcophyton Leather Coral in an effort to propagate it:
- Start dosing the tank with Vitamin C and build the level up to 5 ppm per day.
- Do so by dosing first at 2.5 ppm then go up to 5 ppm.
- Maintain the level for a week before starting the cuttings
- Make sure the dKH is around 10-12 and that the pH does not drop
- After the week is over:
That is really all there is to it. You can also rub some Vitamin C powder on the cap where you cut the piece off. Secure the cut to the rock after really scrubbing everything off it in the area where you are placing the cutting.
- Take a new razor blade
- Cut a piece of the cap
- Cut a piece that is about 3 inches long and at least 1 wide
- Attach the piece to a rock
- The part that is attached is where the cut is
- Aim water at the part that was cut to prevent bacterial infection
- Aim gentle current at the cut piece
- Continue the vitamin C treatment and up the dose to 10 ppm
- Maintain that dosage for ten days.
Add Vital Pro or a similar complete additive at the rate of 1 tsp per 30 gallons each day. Leave the skimmer running. Remove carbon if any. Remove No-Phosphate or similar if any for about 2 to 3 weeks.
