Lucy ~

Unlike many rescues,  Lucy has enjoyed the past 5 years of her life.   She has enjoyed the companionship of the family who rescued her from the unknown 5 years ago; she had 2 whippet playmates and 14 acres to run and play.   With, changes in their lifestyle Lucy's family felt in unfair to leave Lucy with strangers for weeks at a time, so they surrendered her to rescue where she would have the opportunity for a new family who could be with her on a daily basis.   At 8 years young, Lucy was quickly adopted by Chris & Dan Hall who were missing their past affies Zoey & Rajah who had both crossed the Bridge.  In her new life Lucy will have Mr. Jack Russell as her constant companion and playmate, a loving Mom & Dad, and her new friend the "dog walker:" who comes to visit when Mom and Dad have to work long hours.                                                            January 06

Cleveland Chase ~

Found stray on the streets in Cleveland, Ohio and taken in by a couple of good Samaritans.  We have named this beautiful sweet boy "Cleveland Chase", in honor of the person who saved him from the elements.   Nicknamed "Sweety" by his rescuer because of his disposition, Cleveland has remained unclaimed inspite of vigorous efforts to locate his owner.   Our vet's guess Cleveland to be around 10+years young, and has designated him as a "Special Needs" Affie.   CC suffers from arrhythmia and due to his low heart rate he is not able to undergo anesthesia.  He also suffers from some kidney related issues and will need a special diet.

Thanks to breeder Amy Roush CC has found his forever home with Sharin and Grady Whitson of Pt Pleasant, WV.                                  February '06

Lilly ~

At 8 years old Lilly found her way to rescue when her owner lost her home to commercial growth.  Forced from her rented home, Lilly's owner was unable to find a suitable home when area property managers refused to accept a "large dog' as part of the deal.   Heartbroken she contacted rescue in hopes of finding Lilly a new home where she could be loved.  Luckily, we had such a home on our waiting list, and Martha Felgar from N. Ohio was thrilled to accept Lilly into her home

Judah ~

At 4 years old, Judah lost his first home when his family divorced.   He then found another home where he was able to share with 2 other dogs.  Sadly after 6 months his new owner decided he didn't really want 3 dogs and contacted rescue.   Judah is so sweet, gentle and loving, we can not really understand why his second home no longer wanted him.   Perhaps because he was having a little problem with his house manners, or perhaps because he is full of energy.

Judah is a very happy boy.  He has found a new family to love and a new afghan hound playmate share with.  After a a brief stay at Camp Carmel Judah has been adopted by Bob and Jean as a companion to Brock.

  Rudi ~

After several unsuccessful attempts to surrender him to rescue, Rudi's former owner was finally able to let him go when she heard that Sir Galahad had bequeathed his Mom to his cousin.  Like Sir Galahad, Rudi came from  famous parents, and had a good home for many years, but changing times brought Rudi's owner to consider that he would be much happier elsewhere.    AT 11 years old, and with permission from his breeder, Rudi was welcomed into the home of AHRCO volunteer Debbie of Parkersburg, WV .

Princess Crimson Velvet ~

Vel or Vella as she is becoming known to her new Mom, was surrendered to rescue along with her companion, Creamstix.  Both were invested with fleas, mange and underweight.   Both were living as barnyard affies.  They lived in the barn, in a horse stall surrounded by horses.   Because  their former owner was unable to keep them their lives have changed dramatically.   After a few weeks in foster care, where they have grown back some hair and been altered, both have found new homes.    At 2 years old, Vella is reminding her new Mom that it's not smart to leave shoes in the middle of the floor - that pretty leather shoes make excellent affie chew toys.  Vella has been adopted by AHRCO member,  Gayle as a companion to Arazi

Sammy B~

Previously known as Creamstix, Sammy and his companion, Velvet came to us invested with fleas, and while both were suffering from sarcoptic mange, 'Stix" was in much worse condition than Velvet.   Stix has almost no hair on his body. But as always, after a few weeks at Camp Carmel, he is much improved.   He underwent surgery for neuter last week and is recovering slowly and will be on his way to his new home 9/17/06, with AHRCO members, Barb & Glenn where he will be delighted to find he has a beautiful new Affie girlfriend waiting for him.

Willow ~

When a fellow rescuer called for our help after taking in 4 adult afghans and 3 puppies in the same day, we were happy to help, and pretty soon 2 little 8 week old puppies were enjoying life at Camp Carmel.  While the puppies, affectionately named "Dominique" and 'BT" by their foster parents, were keeping the residents of Camp Carmel alert and on their toes, the emails were flying in cyberspace, and the phone wires burning as we worked to find homes for these little cuties.

In no time both were on the reserved list, waiting to meet their new Moms.   Willow is now enjoying life in Indiana with Shelly and her family.  Willow has an older afghan sister, 2 human brothers and a cat to play with..

Sasson Angel ~

is adjusting to her new life in Galena, Ohio with Anita Hackworth, who had adopted  Shadow one of the original rescue puppies 9 years ago.

Meeting her puppy for the first time at AHRCO's annual reunion, it took only a few cuddles  before Anita was thinking of names.  Of course, there were many suggestions including one from a young girl who offered that the puppy should be called "Angel" because she was a little angel sent to help Anita through the grief of loosing Shadow and her children's Grandpa in the same week.

A little online research showed that Sasson is a Hebrew name meaning "Joy" and so our little BT puppy has become Anita's Sassy Angel.

Murray  ~

Murray is a survivor.  At 7 years old, he was taken into custody when his  previous owner was charged with abuse.  After many weeks in an Indianapolis shelter waiting the final decision from the courts, and a brief stay in foster care,  Murray has has arrived safely at his new home with Tina & Martin in Cleveland Ohio.

In his new life, Murray will be sharing the couch with his new best friend, 10 year old "Pepper" a beautiful petite afghan hound.
